Polkadot launched Polkadot OpenGov, a decentralized governance platform designed to empower $DOT holders and protect the Polkadot network.
The platform has the following features:
- No "first-class citizens", but $DOT holders handle all network operations.
- Multiple referenda can run simultaneously, meaning decisions can be taken faster, without compromising security.
In addition, the Polkadot Council and Technical Committee are replaced by an expert body called the Polkadot Fellowship, which has no real power over the network and cannot change parameters or move assets, and has 45 members. Membership in this expert body will likely grow as core developers submit their candidacies.
